Our bodies need the right vitamins and minerals to keep us healthy as we get older! Especially as aging makes us more vulnerable to illness, disease, and even viruses, like Covid-19. Here are some foods to keep your body and mind youthful:

Calcium-rich foods πŸ₯¦

One of the most dangerous conditions in old age is osteoporosis β€” brittle bones can lead to life-threatening fractures. By 2030, 1 in 4 Singaporeans is expected to suffer from osteoporosis. You can fight osteoporosis by eating foods high in calcium, especially dairy foods like milk, cheese, and yogurt. If you can’t take dairy, try dark green leafy vegetables like spinach, kale, or broccoli.

Water 🚰

Drinking water is very important, regardless of how old you are.

The older you get, the easier you dehydrate, which slows your metabolism and makes you fatigued. Keep up your energy and immune system by drinking lots of water. Men should drink at least 3.7 litres a day, while women should try for 2.7 litres.

Nuts πŸ₯œ

Nuts are anti-inflammatory and full of antioxidants. They can help heal damaged cells, delaying diseases in the aging process. If they’re too hard to chew, try a spoonful of nut butter instead, have some nut butter toast, or snack on some mee chiang kueh (peanut pancake).
